Hooker James Roby confident of England success

Roby has hopes of touring with the England side in October

St Helens hooker James Roby believes England can beat Australia and New Zealand in their own backyard and win the Four Nations in October.

Roby figured as England beat France 60-6 on Saturday to raise spirits.

"I'm really confident on our day we can beat the likes of Australia and New Zealand," he told BBC Radio Merseyside.

"There is no reason why we can't go down there and win the series. If you look around that changing room, every player will stand up and be counted."

In the 2009 Four Nations, England did beat New Zealand 20-12 and also claimed a 34-12 victory over France, before losing 46-16 to Australia in the final.

"From previous experience you can tell we've had a number of defeats to New Zealand and Australia and we just haven't performed," Roby continued.

"It's a shame because I think we haven't shown what we're capable of as a team.

"Hopefully we can perform how we can and really take it to them.

"When you pull on that international jersey, there is that extra pride and it gives you that extra enthusiasm to play. We need to hold our hands up and do it."
