Gateshead Thunder will warm up for the new season with a friendly against Castleford Tigers. The match will be played at The Jungle in Castleford and will take place on Sunday, 24 January (1530 GMT). Thunder chief executive Rod Findlay told the club's website: "This is a perfect example of the values of the sport of rugby league. "A Super League club immediately offered to play Gateshead when they learned of our recent difficulties." Thunder have been faced with financial difficulties and were relegated to Championship One with a six-point deduction. "It has been a challenging off-season but we can now look forward to our first fixture," said Findlay. "After talk of business plans and shareholding we can get back to what is important, playing rugby league." It is the second year running that Thunder have played a pre-season friendly against the Tigers. Players moved both ways on loan in 2009 and former Castleford Tiger Jason Payne has signed for Thunder for the 2010 season.
