Cowie mulls retirement, Halligan bows out
Neil Cowie
Another hard day at the office for Wigan's Neil Cowie
Wigan's front row warhorse Neil Cowie is considering hanging up his boots at the end of the season after an illustrious career.

The 33-year-old Welsh international is out of contract at the end of the season, and he has admitted that retirement is a strong possibility.

"I've had a great career so why not go out at the top. Right now I don't know whether I will play another season," Cowie said.

"For the last three or four years I've played like it might be my last. When you are on a one-year deal you never know what the future holds.

"Mentally it becomes very tiring and a stress on your family. Sometimes you have to let it go and get on with the rest of your life," he said.

One player who is definitely bowing out at the end of the season is former New Zealand test winger Daryl Halligan.

A prolific kicker, the Sydney-based Bulldogs star has scored 2,008 points during his career - making him the highest points scorer in National Rugby League history.

"I've just decided that I've had enough and that the time's right for me to get out and for someone else to step up and do the job for the Bulldogs," Halligan said.

The 33-year-old has not made a decision on his future career but is contemplating becoming a goal-kicking coach.

He played 20 tests for New Zealand, scoring 137 points.
