Celtic Crusaders (4) 18 Tries: Quinn, O'Hara, Withers Goals: Lennon (3)
Hull KR (12) 32 Tries: Newton 2, Netherton, Welham, Dobson, Briscoe Goals: Dobson (4)
Hull KR maintained their Super League challenge with a six-try victory over Celtic Crusaders at the Brewery Field. The visitors led 12-4 at the break with tries from Clint Newton and Jason Netherton with the Crusaders responding through Damien Quinn and Ryan O'Hara. Kris Welham, Newton and Michael Dobson, who also kicked four goals, then crossed for Rovers as they reclaimed the lead off the bottom side. Lincoln Withers late try gave them hope but Shaun Briscoe's effort sealed it. After beating Wigan last weekend for only their second win of the Super League season, the home side were in confident mood and things looked good when two Mark Lennon penalties put them 4-0 ahead. But Dobson fed Newton for an easy try and the second rower then turned provider to set up Netherton with Dobson converting both. Quinn's impressive 60-yard break took him over in the left corner and they levelled when Anthony Blackwood set up O'Hara, only for Welham to respond for the visitors. Once Newton crossed for his second try on 64 minutes, Justin Morgan's side took control for their first win in four league and cup games.
Celtic Crusaders coach John Dixon: "I thought the significant thing today was the penalty count which destroyed us. "The count was three-to-one and if that happens against good teams they walk around the park unopposed against you. "If you talk about not being as good as last week (against Wigan) there are some factors such as injuries that you can throw into that. We lost Josh Hannay who has popped a shoulder and David Tangata-Toa who lasted about two minutes. "We have a lot of injuries and they are not just small injuries to players." Hull KR boss Justin Morgan: "Our objective was to come here today and play nice and tight so that we can get some juice out of them and capitalise at the back end. "They did well to hang in and the game was not out of their reach. "To get three scores with 10 minutes to go, if there is a team that could do it, it is them because of their tenacious attitude that they have developed. "I wanted to get some indicators of performances out there and I thought we got that. We ran well from dummy-half at times and our kick-pressure was good as was our line-speed of which we got a good interception try from it."
