Griffin grabbed the night's second try as Huddersfield ran riot against Wigan
David Hodgson led the way with two tries for Huddersfield as Wigan slumped to a second heavy defeat in a week.
Tries from Hodgson, Paul Whatuira and Darrell Griffin gave the Giants a shock but deserved 18-0 half-time lead.
The visitors continued to dominate after the break as Jamhal Lolesi and Ryan Hudson put them 30-0 in front.
Pat Richards replied to get Wigan on the scoreboard but, after Gareth Hock had seen red for dissent, Hodgson crossed again to seal a crushing win.
And matters could get worse for Hock if the Rugby Football League's disciplinary panel decide to take further action after he appeared to manhandle referee Ian Smith prior to his dismissal.
He will automatically appear before the panel on Tuesday and looks likely to be charged with "behaviour contrary to the true spirit of the game".
The League will clarify his charge on Monday but physical abuse of match officials is regarded as the most serious of offences and, under the RFL sentencing guidelines, carries a minimum suspension of eight matches.
Wigan have only five matches left of the regular season plus any play-off ties but Friday's defeat dealt a blow to their hopes of securing a top-four finish and with it a home tie.
The Warriors remain fifth in the table, three points adrift of Warrington, one ahead of Bradford in sixth and three ahead of Wakefield in seventh.
Strugglers Huddersfield stay second from bottom but on the same points as Hull, one behind Harlequins and two behind Hull KR.
Wigan coach Brian Noble:
"There looked to be a couple of things that might not be football issues when you have a performance like that.
"It was very, very flat. We couldn't catch and we compounded that by not tackling enough.
"We didn't give ourselves a fair share of possession, and it was just disrespectful of the opposition, I thought.
"There are certain things that you have to do to win rugby league games, and we didn't do them.
"I can understand the fans' frustrations and I can understand them booing because it looked like a lot of people weren't giving the kind of effort that is required of a team."
Huddersfield joint temporary coach Keiron Purtill:
"Individually, the players stood up and did their jobs and it was a fantastic win for us.
"We scored a lot of points which was pleasing but I thought defensively we were heroic at times.
"It's a monkey off our back, and to get our first win at Wigan is a fantastic achievement."
