Harlequins RL: (6) 6
St Helens: (20) 44
Tries: Pryce, Sculthorpe, Gidley 2, Meli, Tyrer, Wellens 2, Talau
Goals: Sculthorpe 3, Wellens
Super League champions St Helens ensured they remained just two points off the pace as they ran in nine tries to demolish Harlequins at The Stoop.
Leon Pryce and Paul Sculthorpe had already scored for Saints before Chris Melling went over for the only Harlequins try after 23 minutes.
Further tries from Matthew Gidley and Francis Meli made it 20-6 at half-time.
Steve Tyrer, Paul Wellens (two), Willie Talau and Gidley added further tries for Saints after the break.
Harlequins boss Brian McDermott:
"It was a very poor second half. At the moment we're a grubby team - I'm not proud about saying it.
"We try to improve but it's not an overnight job. We never gave ourselves a chance with that performance.
"It's very frustrating and I feel for the players and the supporters. We created chances in the first half but couldn't score a try and that hurt us."
Saints boss Daniel Anderson:
"I'm pleased with the win and the points. We had to hang in there at the end of the first half but I thought we totally controlled the second half.
"We're still not playing in a composed manner and we're really trying to play consistently well but it's not quite working at the moment.
"Having said that we did score some wonderful tries. We got a bit lucky with the try on half-time because I thought there was no time left and I thought that try broke Quins' confidence."
