We're in for a rollercoaster ride

What's that awful ripping sound?

Don't worry, it's just a few form books being torn to shreds.

Whoever suggested Super League was a predictable canter to the try line for the big clubs needs to quickly reassess the facts.

Who would have thought that after just two weeks, only two clubs would have a 100% record, and that one of those would be Wakefield?

The Wildcats followed up their terrific win at Bradford with a gutsy, nail-biting victory over Wigan.

OK, so Wigan had injury problems and fielded 12 players under the age of 24 - but it's still a result that shows how this competition has matured into one that makes weekly predictions very difficult.

Who would have thought that only two sides would have yet to register their first win, and that one of those would be Bradford?

There is nothing wrong with the Bulls that can't be fixed - they still have a squad full of very talented players and a world-class coach leading them.

But they need to get the wheels on quickly.

Widnes are a different side - both in terms of playing and attitude - from the one that under-performed so miserably last year.

But even so, you would not expect Bradford to go to the Halton Stadium and lose, especially after the wake-up call they got from Wakefield last week.

Bradford's match at Wigan next Friday now becomes a massively important fixture for both clubs.

Leigh were most people's tip for bottom spot this year, but they showed they aren't in it just for the laughs with a battling show at Warrington.

It was all square with just over 10 minutes left and it took a couple of late Warrington tries to see them home.

The Wolves have yet to prove they are worthy of living up to their top-six aspirations.

Hull hit their straps at Huddersfield.

It looked like being a landslide as they led 22-0 after 25 minutes, but Huddersfield are a good, solid outfit.

So nobody should be surprised by the way they fought back to push the visitors all the way before finally succumbing to a 28-36 defeat.

Salford's season has begun encouragingly.

After running Wigan close at the JJB, they then picked up a priceless win at home to London.

The Broncos will be very frustrated not to have backed up their win over Warrington with a second successive victory.

But that's the kind of season it could be for everyone, judging by the results this weekend.

But if you had to pin your money on which two sides would take first and second at the moment, you'd have to say Leeds and St Helens.

Both looked very classy on Friday night in a game that was probably closer than the 30-18 scoreline suggested.

Then again, if you did have £50 in your hand and a smiling bookie was asking you to make a prediction on who would finish where in Super League X, the best bet would be to stick the cash back in your pocket.

It's going to be a season of ups and downs.
