Wakefield have signed Whitehaven half-back Sam Obst on a one-year contract.
The 23-year-old, once with Wests Tigers and Sydney Roosters, was voted National League One Player of the Year for 2004.
The Wildcats have also boosted their squad with the capture of French international Sylvain Houles and Academy half-back Liam Campbell.
Houles, who can play at centre or wing, returns to the club on a three-month contract after missing the entire 2004 season with a serious knee injury.
