GB lost the 2001 Test series 2-1
Warrington Wolves forward Paul Wood is the shock inclusion in Great Britain's 22-man squad for the November Test series against Australia.
The 20-year-old has been an influential figure during Warrington's Super League campaign, helping his side reach the play-offs.
"He thought it was a wind-up when I rang him with the news," said Great Britain's head coach David Waite.
"He thought it was his mates having a go.
"It's a fantastic story. He has worked hard to come through and he has a
specific role we believe he can perform for us."
Other uncapped players to be included in squad include Wigan Warriors winger Brian Carney, Wakefield Trinity Wildcats centre Gareth Ellis, and Castleford Tigers forward Ryan Hudson.
There were also some notable absentees, including Bradford
three-quarter Leon Pryce, St Helens pair Paul Wellens and Martin Gleeson and Wigan's new recruit Danny Orr.
Waite, who is travelling out with the squad for warm-weather training in Spain, explained that the availability of Pryce could not be guaranteed because of the player's current involvement in a court case.
"Leon is not available because there is no
guarantee he could travel with the team to train," added the coach.
The Great Britain boss has installed Wigan's Andy Farrell as captain once again, with the Warriors star confident of overcoming a knee injury which has hampered him over the last six weeks.
"I will give myself every chance of playing in the Test series," said
"It's a bit sore but there are 20 days before the first match."
The three-Test series begins on 8 November at Wigan's JJB Stadium, followed by the second Test on 15 November at Hull, with the final match at Huddersfield on 22 November.
