NRL Grand Final as it happened
All the action as it happened from the NRL Grand Final at Sydney's Olympic Stadium.

Final score: Penrith Panthers 18-6 Sydney Roosters

Second half:

80 mins: In front of 81,000 fans, the final hooter sounds as the underdogs Penrith Panthers clinch a famous victory over the defending champions.

78 mins: As the Roosters cough up possession again, the Panthers bench starts to celebrate.

75 mins: Ryan Cross makes a fine break from his line but is scythed down on the half-way line.

73 mins: The Panthers go for the line on the last when everybody was expecting the drop-goal, and Luke Priddis' pass puts Luke Rooney in again for a critical try.

Preston Campbell bends the ball in beautifully from wide on the left to put the Panthers firmly in control.

71 mins: Possession is changing hands regularly as the ball becomes ever-more slippery.

69 mins: As the rain continues to bucket down, Luke Lewis knocks on to hand the Roosters a second set of six.

But the Roosters then knock-on themselves out wide.

66 mins: Luke Priddis dives over the line to score the Panthers' second try after dummying the front-line Roosters defence.

The try comes after Anthony Minichiello knocks on a up-and-under.

62 mins: Ryan Girdler hobbles off - for what looks like the final time in the match - with a leg injury.

61 mins: Shannon Hegarty breaks through the middle before combining with his two wingers, but still the Panthers line remains intact.

58 mins: The Roosters have raised their attacking game up several notches, but the Panthers defence is just about holding firm.

54 mins: The Panthers' Scott Sattler pulls off one of the all-time great tackles as he chases back to drag Todd Byrne into touch after the winger looked to be making his way to the try-line.

51 mins: Anthony Minichiello makes a surprising error as he drops a straightforward kick to pile the pressure on his team.

From the resulting set, Penrith put a kick in and Todd Byrne collects before knocking-on again.

48 mins: After a frenetic few minutes of play, Shannon Hegarty crosses for the Roosters on the left.

The Panthers had forced the turnover, but Rhys Wesser is stripped of the ball on the first and the Roosters exploit the gap and send the ball out wide to Hegarty who comes in on the angle.

The conversion bounces off the post and over to level the scores.

44 mins: The Roosters are starting to spread the ball wide in an effort to find some space, but handling errors are undermining their attacks.

42 mins: A break from Brad Fittler puts the Roosters in a dangerous position, but Jason Cayless spills the ball in the tackle on the next phase.

41 mins: The Roosters get the second half underway with a deep punt.

First half:

40 mins: The Roosters are unable to take full advantage as the half-time hooter sounds on a thrilling encounter.

39 mins: With the Panthers looking to set up a drop-goal field position, Shane Rodney makes a good break but then loses control of the ball in the tackle.

37 mins Luke Swain coughs up possession after yet another huge Adrian Morley hit.

34 mins: Craig Gower recovers after receiving lengthy treatment in the wake of a massive hit.

29 mins: Luke Rooney scores the first try of the match after a beautiful break from dummy-half from Luke Priddis.

The hooker runs straight through the middle with the Roosters defence offside and he draws Minichiello before giving the scoring pass to Rooney.

Girdler converts to extend the underdogs' lead.

27 mins: With the big hits flying in from both sides, Ryan Girdler attempts a kick through but gets too much on it and it runs out of play.

25 mins: Tony Puletua saves the Panthers with a superb cover tackle after a stray long pass gives the Roosters the interception.

23 mins: The pressure is very much on the Panthers as they defend for three successive sets of six under their own posts, but their tackling is holding firm.

21 mins: Brett Finch is taken out late as he dabs the ball through to the in-goal area, but Luke Ricketson's superb chase ensures the Panthers cannot escape into the open field.

19 mins: Adrian Morley hits Scott Sattler with a peach of a tackle to stop the Panthers' momentum, and a mistake at the play-the-ball sees s turnover in possession.

12 mins: As the rain continues to fall heavily, the Panthers cut through the heart of the Roosters defence thanks to two great breaks from dummy-half.

But Minichiello shepherds the grubber kick out of play for a drop-out under the sticks.

3 mins: After a fast and furious start, the defences are on top with both full-backs looking secure under the high ball.

1007 BST: Penrith collect the ball on their own line straight from the kick off and are immediately under pressure.
