80 mins: The hooter sounds to bring an end to a long night for the Great Britian side, as Australia show exactly why they are world champions.

79 mins: Martin Gleeson is denied a try on the line when he is tackled by Gorden Tallis.

77 mins: With the result beyond doubt long ago, the final minutes of the match are predictably low key. Paul Sculthorpe is still trying to cross the line for Great Britain, while the Australians are happy to wait for another chance to break.

72 mins: Trent Barrett is laid out cold when making a tackle on Martin Gleeson and receives treatment for several minutes on the pitch, before being taken off on a stretcher with his neck in a brace.

52 mins: Australia switch off again and Paul Sculthorpe makes a superb break from halfway, before slipping a pass to Kevin Sinfield. The Leeds man goes over and Sculthorpe converts to bring some respectability to the scoreline.

50 mins: Great Britain's first break into Australian territory sees Andy Farrell get past Andrew Johns, and his pass bounces forward to let Karl Pratt cross for his first international try. Paul Sculthorpe's kick is on target but falls short.

46 mins: The break was not long enough for Great Britain and they look desperately tired as Shaun Timmins crosses in the corner after five minutes of constant Australian pressure. Andrew Johns kicks his sixth conversion.

41 mins: The second half begins as the first ended, with Paul Johnson tackled in-goal and the Australians back on the 20m line with six tackles. Keiron Cunningham is on the bench after 40 minutes of tough tackling in the first half.

40 mins: The hooter sounds to give Great Britain a brief respite, but coach David Waite has his work cut out if he is to prevent a humiliating defeat for the visitors.

34 mins: Great Britain cannot get a hand on the ball as Australia overpower their wide men, and Scott Hill finishes off the latest Andrew Johns' move for his second try of the night. Johns finally misses a kick. Australia 28-0 GB

29 mins: A huge roar from the home crowd greets the first touch of substitute Wllie Mason, who is sporting a magnificent afro, and he responds by collecting another Johns pass to score from eight yards out. Andrew Johns converts easily.

26 mins: A dummy from Andrew Johns in midfield rips open the Great Britain defence and Darren Lockyer collects the pass to stroll over. Andrew Johns converts and things are looking ominous for the visitors.
Australia 18-0 GB

22 mins: An attacking substitution sees Australia's Steve Menzies come on for Scott Simpson, and Great Britain are struggling to keep the Kangaroos at bay.

20 mins: A blindside move from Danny Buderus sets up Scott Hill, who just manages to touch down despite pressure from Paul Sculthorpe - and the try is awarded after a replay. Andrew Johns kicks another superb conversion.

18 mins: The deadlock is broken when Chris McKenna goes over in the right-hand corner after the Great Britain defence becomes too stretched. Andrew Johns converts from the touchline.
Australia 6-0 GB

15 mins: Andrew Johns' long passes are finding Australian runners all over the field and only desperate defending is keeping Great Britain on level terms.

13 mins: Australia waste a fantastic chance when Trent Barrett runs 50 metres before off-loading to Lote Tuqiri, who surprisingly chooses to kick from close range allowing the Great Britian cover to clear.

9 mins: Andrew Johns begins to take control of the match and finds Darren Lockyer running at pace, before sending through a kick that stretches GB full-back Kris Radlinksi.

7 mins: Australia's first period of possession ends when Andrew Johns' pass goes to ground, but the home side are looking to move the ball wide early on.

3 mins: A good start sees Great Britain dominate the opening moments, with Stuart Fielden and Ryan Sheridan both getting glimpses of the line.

1 min: Great Britain receive the kick-off and go through a set of six before Ryan Sheridan kicks deep to Australian full-back Darren Lockyer.

1040 BST: The teams enter a less than full Stadium Australia, and the sizeable British contingent make themselves heard during the national anthems.

For the record, the Australian anthem is sung by a man on a horse.
