Kelly makes winning return
Action from this weekend's Northern Ford Premiership action
Rooney breaks the Hull KR defence
Andy Kelly made a winning return to rugby league with a 46-40 win over Hull KR in his first match as Featherstone coach.

The former Wakefield and Gateshead chief's new side edged out their Northern Ford Premiership play-off rivals in a 14-try thriller at the Lionheart Stadium.

Scrum-half Jamie Rooney led the way with two tries and seven goals as the Lions fought back from an 18-6 deficit to claim the points.

Chris Spurr also crossed twice for Featherstone, with Andy Bastow, Danny Seal, Nathan Graham and Richard Newlove the other tryscorers for the home side.

Chris Charles landed eight goals from eight attempts for the Robins, with Whetu Taewa, Matt Schultz, Dane Dorahy, Bob Everitt, Craig Murdock and Paul Fletcher all touching down.

With leaders Huddersfield not in action, second-placed Rochdale closed the gap at the top as they produced a second-half fightback to see off fellow high-fliers Sheffield.

The Hornets ran in second-half tries through Warren Ayres, Matthew Long and Danny Wood as they came back from 14-8 down at the break to win 26-14.

Leigh also took advantage of the Giants' inactivity to move into third with a 35-20 success at Doncaster.

Loose forward Adam Bristow scored a hat-trick of tries and Jon Roper, John Duffy and Simon Svabic also crossed as Paul Terzis' side condemned the Dragons to their first league defeat for five months.

Oldham survived a late Keighley fightback to claim a 34-32 success at Cougar Park.

Three late tries from Karl Smith, Matthew Steele and David Foster put the Cougars in sight of a dramatic victory, but the Roughyeds just managed to hold on.

Swinton staged a stunning recovery as they came from 14 points down to beat Whitehaven for the second time this season.

Winger Jason Roach was Swinton's star with two tries, his second a superb solo effort, as the struggling Lions emerged 34-26 victors at the Recreation Ground.

The trip to Cumbria was far less enjoyable for fellow strugglers Hunslet, who went down 58-12 to Barrow at Craven Park.

David Clark and Cliff Beverley led the way with two tries each as the home side ran in 10 tries to emerge comfortable winners.

Elsewhere, the woes continued for Gateshead, who were beaten 38-6 by Dewsbury, and Chorley, who were beaten 38-12 at Workington.
