Broncos could change name

Leyton Orient have been linked with the Broncos
The London Broncos could be set for another name change as they continue the search for a new home.

Fears over their future were dismissed on Friday when Charlton Athletic director David Hughes purchased the club.

But, according to acting chief executive Nic Cartwright, the Broncos now face the "biggest decision" in their history.

Since the club's inception 21 years ago, they have struggled to put down permanent roots.

We're talking to Barry Hearn at Leyton Orient and they haven't said yes and they haven't said no
Broncos chief Nic Cartwright

Although the club are currently based at The Valley, home of Premiership football club Charlton, their continued presence is unwelcome.

"It's more than likely we were going to choose to go somewhere else anyway because we need to be long-term and Charlton said they don't want us," said Cartwright.

"What we're looking for is a permanent home but if we have to move around for a year or two, we'll do that.

"The key for us now is making sure the club is here in five or 10 years time. This is the biggest decision in the club's history."

And if the club do find a new home, Cartwright suggested the Broncos could be set for another name change.

"We've had many names in the past but, if we did change, I think it would be for the last time," he said.

"If we sacrifice what's gone on in the past to get that permanency I don't think anybody would be too upset."

With ongoing talks to find a new home, the nomadic Londoners have been linked with a host of grounds.

Leyton Orient's Brisbane Road is reported to be in consideration, but Cartwright dismissed talk of a move to Milton Keynes.

"We're speaking to loads of people and everywhere is a possibility but Milton Keynes is outside London so it would probably be 97 on the list," Cartwright said.

"We're talking to Barry Hearn at Leyton Orient and they haven't said yes and they haven't said no. Talks are continuing."
