Wakefield suffer Mason KO
Salford's Martin Offiah

Keith Mason will miss Wakefield's Super League relegation decider at Salford on Sunday.

The talented prop has been handed a two-match ban and fined 200 for a dangerous tackle during last Saturday's home defeat by Huddersfield.

The Wildcats appealed against the suspension but were knocked back by the Rugby Football League's disciplinary panel on Wednesday.

Wakefield need to beat Salford this weekend to avoid relegation from English rugby league's top flight.

The Reds have their own problems and could go into the game without nine players.

Australian forward Jason Nicol suffered a broken foot in Sunday's 40-8 defeat at Hull while Craig Makin sustained a dislocated and broken finger in the same game.

Nick Pinkney and Kris Tassell also took knocks to the knee and could be sidelined along with Paul Southern, Warren Jowitt, Andy Coley, Darren Brown and Steve Blakeley.

Martin Offiah could also be ruled out after missing the last two games with shoulder and ankle injuries.

"Martin has been having treatment every day for the last couple of weeks and we'll give him as long as we can," said coach Steve McCormack.

Offiah, who recently scored his 500th try, looks likely to bring down the curtain on his remarkable rugby league career after the weekend.
