Matautia cleared of 'spear' tackle
Vila Matautia
Matautia was accused of a "spear" tackle
St Helens forward Vila Matautia has been told he has no case to answer after being placed on report for a suspected "spear" tackle against Halifax last Friday.

Rugby League's executive also cleared Halifax forward Paul Davidson of any wrong-doing after he was involved in the incident which left St Helens forward Wayne McDonald with a broken jaw.

McDonald faces a lengthy lay-off after sustaining the injury in the first half of Saints' 32-26 home win over the Blue Sox.

St Helens coach Ian Millward said: "Wayne's jaw was broken in two places and he has undergone surgery.

"At this stage we don't know exactly how long he will be out of action."

Meanwhile, the RFL's advisory panel will sit on Friday to decide the future of former Leigh hooker Michael Higham, who is the subject of a tug of war between St Helens and Halifax.
