McDermott faces ban
![]() McDermott won the Challenge Cup with Leeds in 1999
Leeds Rhinos prop Barrie McDermott has been cited by the Rugby Football League's executive committee for punching St Helens forward Peter Shiels during Saturday's Silk Cut Challenge Cup semi-final.
Shiels was led off the JJB Stadium pitch with blood streaming from his face after the incident, which happened in full view of the BBC cameras. McDermott has been charged with deliberate striking of an opponent and he will appear before the RFL's disciplinary committee at Red Hall on Tuesday. Referee Russell Smith did not see the incident and neither did the linesmen.
