May 1996: Rio Ferdinand reaches the FA Youth Cup final with West Ham, earning rave reviews in the process

After a brief loan period with Bournemouth, Ferdinand quickly became part of Harry Redknapp's plans at West Ham
Feb 1997: Ferdinand establishes himself in West Ham's first team, scoring his first goal against Blackburn

Ferdinand won his first England cap against Cameroon and has amassed 30 caps to date
Nov 1997: Aged just 19, Ferdinand makes his full England debut against Cameroon at Wembley

Ferdinand's talent earned him a place in Glenn Hoddle's squad for the 1998 World Cup, but the defender missed out on Euro 2000
June 1998: Ferdinand makes the World Cup squad and consoles Paul Ince after defeat to Argentina

Ferdinand became the most expensive defender in the world when Leeds Utd shelled out 18m to buy him from West Ham
Nov 2000: Ferdinand signs for Leeds United for a world record fee for a defender of 18m

Following his move to Yorkshire, Ferdinand was able to pit his skills against some of the best players in the world on the European stage
March 2001: Ferdinand plays a major role in Leeds' run to the Champions League semi-finals

Ferdinand scored his first goal for England in their 3-0 demolition of Denmark in the second round
June 2002: Ferdinand comes into his own during the World Cup with a succession of world-class displays
