Andy 'The Viking' Fordham wins his first-ever world championship at the Lakeside, beating Mervyn King.

Ninth set:

King 2-3 Fordham
Fordham's nerve holds as disconsolate King loses his way - and the Viking becomes world champion to the delight of a packed Lakeside.

King 2-2 Fordham
Fordham breaks King's throw and is now throwing to become world champion. King looks distraught, the Viking looks cool.

King 2-1 Fordham
Fordham hits five treble 20s in a row during the leg, and it is no surprise to see him save the set with double eight.

King 2-0 Fordham
King finally holds a leg on his own throw and takes control of the ninth set by again hammering the arrow into double 16.

King 1-0 Fordham
King takes a crucial leg to stop the rot - it is the seventh leg in succession to go against the throw.


Eighth set:

King 2-3 Fordham
Fordham produces a 137 out - to the utter delight of his fans and family in the crowd - to take a remarkable set in which all the legs went against the throw. It is starting to look good for the Viking.

King 2-2 Fordham
Fordham looks downcast as he misses two tries at double 16, and King rattles in double eight to save the set and set up a crucial deciding leg.

King 1-2 Fordham
The tension is really building and both men are missing shots they normally nail with ease - King is off with his favourite double 16 and Fordham takes advantage.

King 1-1 Fordham
Fordham's inability to hit double top costs him dearly - a leg which should have been his goes to his opponent.

King 0-1 Fordham
Fordham misses a 161 out shot by a whisker as he attempt at the bull finishes just outside - but he survives to close out the leg on double two.


Seventh set:

King 1-3 Fordham
Fordham wins on King's throw to retake the lead in sets, much to the delight of his army of fans.

King 1-2 Fordham
Both players score heavily early on in this leg, then both get the nerves when the out shots are on - but Fordham's nerve sees him take the leg on double 10.

King 1-1 Fordham
King finds his rhythm, and produces a smooth treble 20 double eight finish to level the leg scores and keep the pressure on Fordham.

King 0-1 Fordham
King is off-form in this leg - despite hitting his fifth 180 along the way - and Fordham makes no mistake, finishing off with double 16.


Sixth set:

King 3-2 Fordham
King wins the deciding leg despite being under mighty pressure, hitting double two to level the set score.

King 2-2 Fordham
Fordham bosses the fourth leg, wins it, and takes the sixth set to a decider.

King 2-1 Fordham
Fordham misses out on a 167 out shot by a hair's breadth, and King makes no mistake, getting his favourite double 16 to take the advantage in the set.

King 1-1 Fordham
After a slow start, King nails a maximum, but it is not enough to prevent Fordham taking the leg with his first shot at double 19.

King 1-0 Fordham
Double 12 gives King the first leg after the interval as both players again show signs of nerves.


Fifith set:

King 3-1 Fordham
King shows an impressively cool head, hitting double 16 with his first attempt to take the set and narrow Fordham's advantage at the interval.

King 2-1 Fordham
Fordham saves the set in a leg during which King fails to get going - but King is still favourite to take the set.

King 2-0 Fordham
Fordham hits a 180, but it is all in vain as King hits double 16 to put himself within touching distance of narrowing Fordham's advantage.

King 1-0 Fordham
A 14-dart leg from King who wins against Fordham's throw and give himself the early advantage in the set.


Fourth set:

King 2-3 Fordham
Fordham holds his nerve in a tense finale, nailing double two to win against King's throw and the Viking takes a two-set lead.

King 2-2 Fordham
King yells as he produces a bull, 19, double 16 finish to save the set again, this time against Fordham's throw - and now throws first on the deciding leg.

King 1-2 Fordham
Fordham's run of good form comes to an end as King saves the set, eventually nailing double two much to the relief of his fans.

King 0-2 Fordham
Fordham has now won six legs in a row, and King must stop the rot if the match is not to run away with him.

King 0-1 Fordham
Fordham's fourth 180 is part of a brilliant 11-dart finish as the Viking hits his very best form.


Third set:

King 0-3 Fordham
The nerves are clearly getting to both players, as each miss a string of out shots - before Fordham nails double two to take the lead for the first time.

King 0-2 Fordham
Both players miss double top on difficult out shots, but Fordham holds his nerve to take the leg.

King 0-1 Fordham
Fordham is beginning to show some of the form which saw him beat Raymond van Barneveld in the semi, and he hits another maximum on his way to winning the leg.


Second set:

King 1-3 Fordham
Another 180 from Fordham who takes the second set, despite a nervous moment when he missed double top.

King 1-2 Fordham
King hits his first maximum on his way to taking the leg and saving the set.

King 0-2 Fordham
A scrappy leg sees both men throwing erratically and missing the doubles, but Fordham finally nails double 10 to take a 2-0 lead.

King 0-1 Fordham
King throws first, but Fordham appears to have found some rhythm after his shaky start, and comes back to win the leg.


First set:

King 3-1 Fordham
Fordham is agonisingly close to a 101 out shot, but just misses double top, and King takes full advantage to secure the first set

King 2-1 Fordham
Fordham shakes off his lethargic opening spell and produces an 11-dart leg to save the set.

King 2-0 Fordham
Of the two players, King seems to have settled better, with Fordham hitting the fives and ones with alarming regularity.

King 1-0 Fordham
King takes the first leg - despite Fordham throwing first - with the Viking showing signs of early nerves.
