Yorkshire ski jumper James Lambert to represent GB

Holmenkollen ski jump Arena in Oslo
Oslo will host the 2011 Nordic World Ski Championships

Yorkshire ski jumper James Lambert will represent Great Britain at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo.

Lambert, 45, who is originally from Todmorden, is the first Briton to jump more than 100 metres.

He told BBC Radio Leeds he believes he can cause an upset in Norway, where he now lives.

"If things go well for me I can beat one or two of the other World Cup jumpers," he said. "That is going to be a massive result for Great Britain."

Lambert, who is completely self-funded, is proud of his standing as the UK's top ski jumper.

"Being the first Brit ever to jump over 100 metres is British history," he said. "So I can quite confidently say I am the best ski jumper ever from Great Britain."

The FIS Nordic World Ski Championships take place from 23 February to 6 March, 2011, in Oslo, Norway.
