Sprinter Katherine Endacott selected for GB bobsleigh

Plymouth sprinter Katherine Endacott has been chosen for Great Britain's bobsleigh squad following a successful trial at the University of Bath.

Endacott, 30, won silver in the 100m and gold in the 4x100m relay at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi last year.

She told BBC Devon: "I'm a good sprinter and a good starter, so it's good for them to have somebody with speed to push the bobsleigh down.

"I've not been on a proper bobsleigh, just a dry slope with a makeshift one."

With the next Winter Olympics scheduled to be held in Sochi, Russia, in 2014, Endacott has plenty of time to get used to the new sport.

Endacott said: "The closest thing for me where I can practise on a dry-slope is Bath.

"But eventually they'll need to get me out on to the ice to get used to pushing the bobsleigh, so that's going to be a bit nerve-racking."
