Gillings is ranked fifth in the world
Zoe Gillings started her Olympic season in style by winning a silver medal in the Parallel Giant Slalom at the South American Cup in Argentina on Sunday.
The British number one battled with heavy snow and poor visibility to finish second in a field of 18 international and World Cup athletes.
The 24-year-old said: "I'm really happy with my performance today."
The result is even more remarkable as Gillings's main discipline is snowboard cross, not slalom.
Because of serious funding problems in this Olympic season, Gillings, who is ranked fifth in the world, has only managed to train on snow for four days this summer instead of the seven weeks she had planned.
Gillings continued: "It's been a difficult summer but considering my serious lack of training I'm still confident going into the Olympic season.
"The British Olympic Association and UK Sport have helped tremendously since the funding problems began but I couldn't have even competed in this competition if it were not for my personal sponsors."
