Maria Riesch won Germany's second gold of the World Ski Championships with victory in the women's slalom.
Riesch, 24, produced an impressive second run to finish with a combined total of one minute 51.80 seconds.
Defending champion Sarka Zahrobska was 0.77 seconds behind in second, while Finland's Tanja Poutiainen took bronze.
Lindsey Vonn was again involved in some drama as the American, second after the opening run, fell and injured her right thumb to crash out of the competition.
Vonn was already wearing a specially designed splint after slicing her thumb open on Monday at a party to celebrate her success in winning the downhill gold and super-G titles.
US ski team physician Terry Orr said: "She's fine. It was a bit of a bang, but we think it's OK. She's a very gutsy girl."
Riesch finally won gold after missing out on medals in three other events.
"There was a huge expectation on me from myself, people at home, with papers saying I could get four medals," she said.
"It was good to finally come through at the end."
France's Sandrine Aubert, who was third after the opening run, also fell on her second trip down but hiked back up to finish nearly 50 seconds behind the leader.
Italy's Manuela Moelgg led the event after the first run and looked on course for victory until she straddled a gate with the finishing line in sight.
Italians Denise Karbon and Nicole Gius finished fourth and fifth respectively.
