Scotland men retain curling title

Scotland retained their European Curling Championship title following a dramatic 7-6 win over Norway at the Swedbank Arena in Sweden.

The Norwegians built up a 3-0 lead early on and held a 6-4 advantage after nine ends.

But David Murdoch's rink showed resolve and a double-takeout took the tie to an extra end.

The Scots then stole victory after Norway skip Thomas Ulsrud's rock went inches too far.

"We always had belief but that was a really hard first five ends," said Murdoch.

"From that point on it was really going to be a grind.

"We thought 'hang in there, hang in there' and we managed to give them some stingers at the end."

Ulsrud was disappointed not to have held on for victory.

"I'm not going to get any closer than that to winning a Europeans without actually winning it, that's for sure," said the Norwegian skip.

"I thought the whole team played really well, and it was a great game."

"We were all over them from the start. That just goes to prove it, that it's never really over."

In the women's final, Switzerland eventually overcame the host nation 5-4.
