Austria's Hermann Maier has become the second oldest skier to win a World Cup race after victory in the Lake Louise super-G in Canada.

The 35-year-old recorded his 54th career win in a time of 1 minute 29.84 seconds, 0.59 seconds ahead of Canada's John Kucera.

Maier almost retired at the end of the season but is now celebrating his first World Cup win since January 2006.

Liechtenstein's Marco Buchel was 36 when he won in Kitzbuehel last year.

Meanwhile British downhiller Finlay Mickel returned to action at the weekend after missing most of last season with injury.

He finished 43rd in Saturday's downhill, which was won by Italy's Peter Fill, his first victory in the World Cup circuit.
