Karbon seals giant slalom crown
Denise Karbon was world junior giant slalom champion in 1999.
Karbon cannot be caught in the standings
Italy's Denise Karbon was confirmed as women's World Cup giant slalom champion when a race planned for Sunday in the German resort of Zweisel was cancelled.

The 27-year-old has dominated the event this season, winning five of the six races in the discipline.

She has a 181-point lead over Austrian Elisabeth Gorgl going into the final race of the season at the World Cup finals in Bormio later this month.

Gusting winds forced have played havoc with the race schedule in Zweisel.

"I would have preferred to win the globe on the slopes, even if the conditions were really bad," said Karbon, who was world junior champion in the event in 1999.
