Olympic downhill champion Antoine Deneriaz has announced he is retiring from Alpine skiing.

Frenchman Deneriaz surprisingly clinched gold at the blue-riband event of the 2006 Winter Olympics, which were held in Turin.

Deneriaz has since struggled and has a history of knee problems that have troubled him throughout his career.

"I have decided to completely end my career. It's time to turn the page," said the 31-year-old.
