Rocca claims fifth slalom victory
Giorgio Rocca
Italy's Giorgio Rocca made it five wins out of five in the World Cup slalom with victory in Wengen.

He was leading with just Benjamin Raich to race and the Austrian straddled the third gate to hand Rocca the win.

Finland's Kalle Palander finished second in Switzerland and last-year's winner Alois Vogl of Germany was third.

Briton Alain Baxter was aiming to break into the top 30 to secure a second run but the Scot finished 39th from a start bib of 43.

I can win the slalom World Cup as early as next week and I feel I've already accomplished a lot this season
Giorgio Rocca

Rocca, who was fourth after the first run, finished in an aggregate time of 1:42.28, 0.20 seconds ahead of Palander with Vogl recording 1:42.79.

The Italian said: "To win here in Wengen was already a dream but to win five in succession is just unbelievable especially as it took place in front of all my family.

"I have no explanation for my current form. All I know is that I'm more and more confident and having a great time.

"I can win the slalom World Cup as early as next week and I feel I've already accomplished a lot this season. As a result, I'll go to the Olympics without any pressure."

World Cup overall champion Bode Miller finished a slalom for the first time this season.

He was 20th after the first run but recorded the fastest second run to move him up to eighth place.
