Salt Lake City curlers: Janice Rankin

Members of Britain's victorious Winter Olympics curling team reflect on their win in Salt Lake City in 2002 and assess the side's prospects for Turin in February.

Then

Janice Rankin

The left-hander, who turned 30 during the Salt Lake City Games, was appearing in her first Olympics.

It wasn't until the seventh end [of 10] that it hit me I was playing in an Olympic final. It didn't really change how I felt, it was just quite exciting.

When Rhona let go of her last stone I knew the weight was good so I figured as long as the line was ok I thought we'd be there or thereabouts.

I think I jumped up in the air but there was no realisation of what winning a Olympic final would mean for us.

For the year after things were really busy with lots of new experiences, going to all sorts of places and meeting lots of different people.

When I started curling I never thought that would happen. It's nice to realise so many people had been supporting us and wanted to meet us.

Now
The former recruitment administrator, who lives in Elgin, Scotland, was in the final 10-strong squad but missed out on the trip to Turin.

Rankin, who is married to Stephen, had a little boy called Jamie in 2003.

I'm disappointed to miss out but to be honest it's not the end of the world for me. At least I've done it before.

I've got a wee boy now so I suppose my priorities are a bit different. But I'll be watching to see how the girls and boys get on.
