Turin hosts the opening and closing ceremonies in the Olympic Stadium and also houses venues for short track, speed skating, ice hockey and ice skating.

The ice hockey will be divided between two venues, while the ice skating and short-track speed skating will use the same facilities.

Did you know? 'Turin' comes from the Celtic word 'Tau', which means 'mountains'. The Italian name Torino means 'little bull'

The speed skating will have its own stadium, while Turin is also home to an Olympic village to house the athletes.

Most of the Games' medal ceremonies will take place at the Piazza Castello.

Turin, the capital of Piedmont in north-west Italy, is situated on the Po River and has a population of about 1.7m people.

It became the capital of the newly-proclaimed United Italy in 1861 before the honour was moved to Florence in 1865 and then switched to Rome five years later.

The city is home to the famous Juventus football club, while the giant car-maker Fiat was founded in Turin in 1899. It is also the birthplace of solid chocolate.

Ice hockey will be held mainly in the new Palasport Stadium next to the Olympic Stadium, as well as in a temporary structure in the Torino Esposizioni complex.

The Oval Lingotto (400m x 12.60m) will house the speed skating and can cater for up to 8,500 spectators.

The short track and figure skating venue, the Palavela, is 60m x 30m and has a capacity for up to 6,600 spectators.
