Get airborne on your snowboard
How to get yourself airborne

There's nothing quite like catching some serious air on your snowboard.

But to do that, you'll need to learn how to nail a jump properly - and safely.

You'll need to find a suitable kicker with the landing on a downward slope - if you do crash you'll just slide downhill.

And once mastered, the sky's the limit. But it's worth starting off small to begin with.

You'll soon be nailing grabs, 180s, 360s, frontside and backside until your heart's content.

Step one

Approach the jump at a comfortable speed. But don't go too fast, otherwise you'll lose control during the jump.

Keep your weight centred over the board with your knees bent.

Your shoulders should be in line with the board to avoid twisting on take-off and landing on an edge.

Step two

Let your momentum carry you through the take-off.

Don't try to push or extend your legs on take off as this will throw you off balance.

Step three

As you take off, slightly move your knees to your chest.

This will help retain stablilty through the jump.

A stable jump means a stable landing.

Step four

How to get yourself airborne

Always try to land on a downward slope - if you crash you'll just slide downhill.

Look to land with the board as flat as possible.

As with any landing, always absorb the impact through the legs.

If the take off has been nailed correctly, then landing should be no problem. You'll probably need loads of practice to get this right so be patient!

Remember to try and stay upright.

Make a slight toe turn, stop and hold your fist aloft - you've done it!
