Sanchez given first MLB drugs ban
Alex Sanchez
Sanchez joined Tampa Bay after being released by Detroit
Tampa Bay's Alex Sanchez has become the first player to be suspended under a new Major League Baseball drug policy.

The 28-year-old, who has just joined the Devil Rays, has been banned for 10 days for using a prohibited substance.

Sanchez has denied taking steroids and plans to appeal against the ban, which will begin immediately.

The tougher new measures were agreed between players and team owners in January after a series of allegations that hit the sport in 2004.
