Los Angeles pitcher Eric Gagne sprained his left knee on the first day of
full squad workouts at spring training.
Gagne, who had his major league-record baseball consecutive saves streak ended at 84 against Arizona on 5 July, was hurt as he fielded a ground ball.
"I turned for it and (my cleat) stuck. I felt a pop and it got warm, and (the trainers) didn't want to take chances, so they just shut me down," he said.
At best, Gagne could be sidelined for one week.
"The good thing is that there's no swelling. They tested it, moved it around and nothing hurt," he added.
Gagne made 70 appearances last season, going 7-3 with a 2.19 ERA
and 45 saves in 47 opportunities.
During his three-year tenure as Los Angeles' closer, the 29-year-old Canadian is 13-7 with 152 saves and a 1.79 ERA.
