Shaquille O'Neal will have his injured knee examined by doctors in Miami later on Thursday.
In his absence, the Heat lost in Indianapolis as the Pacers ran out 93-91 victors in the latest round of NBA games.
O'Neal injured his knee against Chicago on Tuesday night after
landing awkwardly early in the first quarter.
It was another game conceded by Miami who nevertheless remain in control of the Eastern Conference Southeast division.
O'Neal fell on top of Bulls forward Othella Harrington, after going up for an alley-oop pass from Dwyane Wade, and stayed on the floor for several minutes - holding his knee.
Heat coach Stan Van Gundy said: "Obviously, our team has been built around him. But there's other ways we have to play.
"We've played two pretty good games without him this year."
He insisted he was not anxious about the results of the MRI scan.
