New England's hopes of retaining their Super Bowl title have been dealt a blow by a serious injury to Rodney Harrison.
The Patriots' defensive lynchpin will miss the rest of the NFL season with a a torn anterior cruciate ligament.
The 32-year-old led all NFL defensive backs in tackles over the past two years, posting a career-high 140 tackles in 2003.
He added 138 tackles in 2004 as New England won the Super Bowl in both seasons - their third in four years.
Harrison, who joined the Patriots from San Diego in 2003, suffered the injury in Sunday's 23-20 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
