The University of Southern California thrashed Oklahoma University 55-19 to win the Orange Bowl and the US college national championship.
Heisman Trophy winner Matt Leinart completed 18-of-35 passes for 332 yards and five touchdowns as the Trojans claimed back-to-back national titles, having shared last year's award with LSU.
The top-ranked Trojans finish the season with a 13-0 record, while the Sooners end with a 12-1 mark and a second straight loss in the Bowl Championship Series finale.
Oklahoma's disappointment will come as no consolation to unbeaten Auburn, who can consider themselves unfortunate to miss out on the BCS title game this season.
The Tigers (13-0) stated their case with a 16-13 victory over Virginia Tech in the Sugar Bowl on Monday, but had to settle for second place in the final rankings.
Steve Smith hauled in seven receptions for 113 yards with three scores for the Trojans, who claimed their 11th national title and extended the nation's longest winning streak to 22 games.
Dwayne Jarrett, another USC receiver, added a score and 115 yards on five catches, while LenDale White, nursing a sprained right ankle, rushed for 118 yards and two touchdowns.
Reggie Bush, another Heisman Trophy finalist, added 75 rushing yards on just six carries.

Oklahoma quarterback Jason White, who won the 2003 Heisman Trophy and finished third this season, ended his collegiate career in disappointing fashion.
White was 24-of-36 for 244 yards with two touchdowns, but he also threw three costly interceptions for the Sooners who lost last year's BCS title game 21-14 to Louisiana State University.
Freshman running back Adrian Peterson had 82 yards on 25 carries for Oklahoma, who were looking for their eighth national championship and second in the last five seasons.
