Free agent shortstop Edgar Renteria has agreed a four-year deal with the Boston Red Sox.
Renteria had spent the last six seasons with St Louis, who were swept by the Red Sox in this year's World Series.
According to the Boston Globe, Renteria's deal is worth $40m with an option for a fifth year.
The four-time All-Star and two-time Gold Glove winner hit .287 last season with 10 home runs and 72 RBI.
Renteria owns a career .289 batting average with 83 homers and 565 runs batted in.
The 29-year-old made the final out of this past World Series by grounding out to Red Sox closer Keith Foulke.
Renteria was signed by Florida as an amateur free agent in 1992 and earned a
World Series title with the Marlins in 1997.
Arizona have signed shortstop Craig Counsell, who spent four seasons with the Diamondbacks and returns after playing in 2004 with Milwaukee.
The 34-year-old was a member of Arizona's 2001 World Series-winning team and also played a key role in the Florida Marlins' 1997 run to the title.
