Reichel leaves Leafs

Toronto centre and Czech Republic national captain Robert Reichel has ended his 13-year NHL career.

The 33-year-old has returned home to play for Czech club Chemopetrol Litvinov.

"Toronto did not exercise an option in my contract and I would like to allow my son to grow up here (in the Czech Republic)," Reichel said on Litvinov's website.

Reichel, who won a gold medal at the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics, scored 252 goals and had 378 assists during his NHL career.

He previously played for Litvinov for two seasons between 1999 and 2001.

Reichel is a member of the Czech team for the World Cup which starts later this month.
