Hamm ties the knot
Mia Hamm is set to retire after the 2004 Olympic Games
Hamm is the USA's all-time top scorer
US sports superstars Mia Hamm and Nomar Garciaparra have married in a private ceremony in California.

Hamm became the world's best-known female football after leading the USA to glory in the 1999 World Cup.

Boston Red Sox shortstop Garciaparra, a two-time American League batting champion, is one of baseball's most popular players.

The couple wedding's in Santa Barbara came a year after Garciaparra proposed to Hamm.

The two met at charity event in 1998 and started dating last November, shortly after Hamm divorced her husband of six years.

Garciaparra's aunt, Lulu Garciaparra, said: "It was a really nice wedding, on a hill with an ocean view.

"It was a very beautiful day."
