Canadiens make NHL history
The Canadiens' Richard Zednik
Zednik scored twice in the Canadiens' narrow win
Yanic Perreault and Richard Zednik both scored twice as the Montreal Canadiens defeated the Edmonton Oilers 4-3 in first outdoor game in NHL history on Saturday.

In temperatures of -18C, a sell-out 57,167 crowd at Commonwealth Stadium, saw Canadiens goaltender Jose Theodore make 34 saves in an exciting match.

Jarrett Stoll, Steve Staois and Eric Brewer were all on the scoresheet for the Oilers.

Fred Brathwaite made 24 saves to help the Ohio Blue Jackets beat the New York Islanders 2-1 in Columbus.

Rick Nash and Todd Marchant scored in the second period for the Blue Jackets and Oleg Kvasha's late effort for the Islanders was too little, too late.

Stephen Weiss scored deep into overtime to give the Florida Panthers a dramatic 3-2 win over the Washington Capitals.

The victory ended the Panthers' three-game losing streak.

Weiss took Viktor Kozlov's pass and outmuscled Washington defender Brendan Witt before beating Olaf Kolzig.

Washington's Robert Lang had scored on a goal-mouth scramble with 59.6 seconds left in regulation.

Kozlov and Kristian Huselius also scored for the Panthers, while Jaromir Jagr added a goal for Washington.
