Bonds to have elbow surgery
Barry Bonds
Bonds will only be out of action for a few days
San Francisco Giants star Barry Bonds is to have surgery on his left elbow.

It will be a minor procedure to remove a suture left over from a 1999 operation.

Bonds, a five-time National League Most Valuable Player, will only be out of training for a few days.

Bonds set the single-season home run record with 73 in 2001 and last year hit a career-best .370 with a major league-record .582 on-base percentage.
