Raiders rock Broncos on record night
Oakland's Jerry Rice celebrates his 200th NFL touchdown

Denver Broncos 10-34 Oakland Raiders

A superb display from Oakland quarterback Rich Gannon led the Raiders to a rout of fierce rivals the Denver Broncos in the 500th Monday night football game.

On a night of milestones, Raiders receiver Jerry Rice scored his 200th career touchdown, the first time the mark has been reached in the NFL.

Rice also broke Walter Payton's NFL record for all-purpose yards. A 34-yard touchdown reception, his second of the game, gave him 21,817 all-purpose yards - 13 more than Payton's record.

Gannon, who completed 34 of 38 passes and threw for three touchdowns, made a single-game record 21 completions in a row, leaving him just one shy of the overall record.

San Francisco 49er legend Joe Montana had 22 consecutive completions over two games in 1987.

A TV replay later revealed a Gannon pass that was ruled incomplete was actually caught within the field of play and should have counted, giving him the overall record too.

The 14-year veteran's run ended when he failed to reach Jerry Rice early in the final quarter.

But he went back to Rice on his very next pass and found the veteran receiver for a 34-yard touchdown - Rice's 201st.

Rice reached the 200-touchdown mark on a Gannon pass from six yards with 1:22 left in first half.

Rice now has 40 more scores than his nearest challenger, Dallas Cowboys running back Emmitt Smith.

Gannon hit Jerry Porter for another Oakland touchdown.

The Raiders got their first touchdown late in the opening quarter when safety Rod Woodson returned an interception almost from his own goal line.

Sebastian Janikowski added two field goals to complete Oakland's scoring.

Rookie running back Clinton Portis scored Denver's only touchdown one a one-yard surge.

It was Oakland's first win in five games and first in Denver since Mike Shanahan become Broncos coach in 1995.
