Barry Bonds picked up where he left off last season, hitting two home runs to lead the San Francisco Giants to a 9-2 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers. After hitting 73 homers last year to topple Mark McGwire's 1998 season home run record, Bonds hit a two-out, three-run shot off Kevin Brown on his second swing of the season. Bonds had an RBI single off Brown in the fourth innings. The home runs gave Bonds five runs on opening day and 569 overall, moving four behind Harmon Killebrew, who ranks sixth on baseball's career list. Montreal Expos rallied to score three runs in the ninth innings to beat Florida Marlins 7-6, with a single from Orlando Cabrera clinching the game. A crowd of 34,351 cheered loudly after Jose Vidro tied it with a two-out, two-run single before Cabrera won it. Curt Schilling threw seven scoreless innings, while Damian Miller hit a grand slam as Arizona Diamondbacks beat San Diego Padres 9-0. Schilling struck out nine, allowed six hits and did not walk a batter all night. The Diamondbacks received their World Series rings in a ceremony before the game in front of a sell-out crowd. Milwaukee Brewers secured a 9-3 victory over Houston Astros as Ben Sheets struck out a career-high eight. Richie Sexson, Tyler Houston and Jose Hernandez drove in two runs each. Sexson and Geoff Jenkins hit consecutive homers, while Alex Ochoa also homered for the Brewers.
