Davies wins backstroke gold medal

Davies took bronze for Wales at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi

Swansea swimmer Georgia Davies took the 50m backstroke title at the British Championships in Manchester.

Davies won the final in a time of 28.67 beating her nearest rival, Emma Saunders by 0.13 seconds.

There was more Welsh success with Gemma Lowe qualifying for the World Championships in Shanghai after coming second in the 200m butterfly.

Lowe achieved qualification for with her second fastest time ever behind Ellen Gandy.

"The last 10 metres really hurt and I didn't think I would have any more in the tank," said Lowe on her second place.

"It was the final and I'd missed out on the 100 so I just gave it everything I had and just put my head down. I'm really pleased."

Davies and Lowe's success followed on the from Jazz Carlin's two second places to Rebecca Adlington in the 200m and 400m freestyle events.
