Her politics professor father Rok Ajulu met her mother Helen, a lecturer in international development, when they worked together at Leeds University.
She moved back to Britain aged 13 and has continued her education at Plymouth College since September 2007.
Ajulu-Bushell on road to swimming success
Ajulu-Bushell will work under Dave Heathcock at Gurnell Leisure Centre and is set to start her A-levels at Notting Hill and Ealing High School next month.
She represented Kenya at last year's World Championships before deciding to switch nationality and the International Olympic Committee has ruled she can represent her adopted country at the London Games.
