Simmonds sets new European record

Simmonds holds three individual and two relay short-course British records

Lincoln swimmer Lizzie Simmonds set a new European and Commonwealth short-course 200m backstroke record at the FINA World Cup meet in Stockholm.

The 18-year-old won the gold medal in a time of 2:02.01 seconds, ahead of Australian Belinda Hocking and Japan's Shiko Sahai.

Simmonds also broke her own British record in the 100m backstroke.

She took silver after finishing joint second in the final in a time of 56.92 seconds, with Sahai claiming gold.
