Bell clinches British U-19 crown

Squash

Carlisle Squash Club's Victoria Bell defeated Sarah-Jane Perry in the final of the British Girls Under-19 squash championship in Nottingham on Sunday.

The 18-year-old won the final by three sets to love in just 35 minutes adding to her success in the Czech Under-19 tournament in January.

Bell is also celebrating a call-up to the England squad for March's European Championship event in Norway.

The call-up comes after a knee injury kept Bell out of the mixed team.

The Bell family has a pedigree in squash with father Ron a former champion himself, and her father was delighted with her success.

He told BBC Radio Cumbria: "She has had a fantastic run, she's seeded four in this tournament which makes it even sweeter to actually come away with the crown."

Victoria's success was complimented by the efforts of Wigton Squash Club's Johnathan Honeyman.

The youngster reached the last 16 of the Under-15 event where he was beaten by the seeded Mathew Sidaway.
