Grinham given scare by teenager
squash
Former world number one Rachael Grinham survived a huge scare against Raneem el Weleily as she battled into the last 16 of the women's World Open.

Seventeen-year-old world junior champion El Weleily battled well before losing out 9-1 9-5 8-10 10-8 at the Belfast Boat Club.

But first seed and holder Nicol David suffered no such scare versus England's Lauren Briggs, winning 9-4 9-5 9-4.

Elsewhere, Vanessa Atkinson beat Dominique Lloyd-Walter 9-2 9-6 9-0.

The second-seeded Dutchwoman is considered by many to be David's closest rival for the title in Northern Ireland and made easy work of dispatching the Englishwoman.

Hong Kong's Rebecca Chiu set up a match against Grinham after resisting a late revival from Ireland's Laura Mylotte to win 9-1 9-2 10-9.

The tournament is the perfect preparation for Chiu ahead of her defence of the Asian Games title in Doha in a fortnight's time.

Meanwhile, Briton Tania Bailey beat Malaysian Sharon Wee 9-5 9-1 9-3 to set up a last-16 clash against compatriot Alison Waters, while Natalie Grinham, younger sister of Rachael, beat New Zealand qualifier Jaclyn Hawkes for the loss of only five points.
