Welsh trio in semis
John Price, Robert Weale and Mike Prosser gave the home crowd plenty to cheer at the HJ Hall Welsh Bowls Masters in Llanelli.

The trio made their way into the semi-finals of the prestigious event at the Selwyn Samuel Centre with impressive performances.

Port Talbot's Price demolished former world champion Hugh Duff, of Scotland, 10-1, 8-2 to book his last four place.

He said: "I didn't expect it to be comfortable against Hugh. But I played quite well and I'm looking forward to Friday now."

I kept my nerve in the tie-break
Robert Weale

Price will play England's Les Gillett in the semi-final after the conqueror of 2002 world champion Tony Allcock knocked out Greg Harlow 10-4, 4-9, 2-1.

It was a thrilling match for the large crowd, with Gillett's last drive knocking out Harlow's game shot, and he said: "It's great to get through, but I've still two matches to play to win the title.

Prestigene's Weale survived a second set scare to put out double world champion Andy Thomson, of England, 9-1, 6-7, 2-0.

"It got a bit stressful towards the end," a relieved Weale said. "But I kept my nerve in the tie-break."

Good form

Prosser, the taxman from Tonyrefail, made it a triple triumph with a nerveless 8-3, 3-8, 2-0 victory over youngster Ian Bond, of England.

He set up an all-Welsh semi-final with Weale, and is looking forward to taking on his fellow countryman.

"I have played Robert on many occasions and know what a good player he is. I will just have to continue my form and see what happens."

The semi-finals start at the Selwyn Samuel Centre at 1230 GMT on Friday, with the final following - scheduled for 1530 GMT.
