Hugh Duff in action in Llanelli
Scotland's Hugh Duff ejoyed an easy win
Welshman Mike Prosser delighted his home crowd at the 2002 HJ Hall Welsh Masters in Llanelli with a shock first round win over Scotland's Paul Foster.

Prosser, not ranked in the world's top 40, beat world number four Foster after a nail-biting tiebreak in the third set to win 8-2 4-5 2-1.

World number two John Price also progressed as he won the battle of the Welshmen to move smoothly into the quarter-finals.

Price beat Cardiff's Jeff Webley 7-2 7-6 at Llanelli's Selwyn Samuel Centre.

John Price
Price always looked in control
Webley only secured his place in the tournament after being crowned Welsh Indoor Champion on Monday.

But he never looked like causing an upset against his more illustrious opponent.

Scotland's Hugh Duff and England's Ian Bond were also first round winners on Tuesday.

Duff edged through a tight match with fellow countryman Darren Burnett, while Bond was hugely impressive in his 11-1 6-2 win over Wales' Stephen Rees.

2002 HJ Hall Welsh Masters first round results:

J Price (Wal) bt J Webley (Wal) 7-2 7-6
H Duff (Sco) bt D Burnett (Sco) 7-6 5-4
I Bond (Eng) bt S Rees (Wal) 11-1 6-2
M Prosser (Wal) bt P Foster (Sco) 2-8 5-4 2-1

Still to play: Jonathan Ross v Greg Harlow, Les Gillett v Tony Allcock, Robert Weale v Julie Forrest, Jason Greenslade v Andy Thomson.
