Glory for Scottish duo
Scotland's Hugo Duff and Paul Foster went one better than last year by winning the Potters Holidays World Indoor Pairs bowls title.
Last year's beaten finalists fought back from a one-set deficit to beat East Lothian's Graham Robertson and Ely's Greg Harlow 5-8 10-8 2-1. A delighted Foster said later: "This is as good as winning the singles and makes up for last year." Harlow thought that his pair had victory in the bag in the second set, but Foster produced the shot of the tournament to touch the jack with his last shot and send the match into a tie-break. Missed chance "I thought we had won it in the last end of the second set," said Harlow. "After taking the opening set, and getting back from 8-2 down in the second, we were only one down playing the last. "When I drew to within only a couple of inches of the jack I thought that was it." In the best-of-three ends tie-break Harlow missed a chance on the opening end when he failed to beat Foster's shot, which was three-and-a-half feet from the jack. The Anglo-Scottish pairing scored on the second tie-break end, but Duff and Foster dominated the deciding end and took the all-important shot to secure the title. |
